At best this was a 3.25 star read. The drama was a little too contrived for me especially that ending… I am not sure if I want to read the next one. I will think about it. I think the best part of it was that Rachel was in essence a single parent and it was cool to see the guy fall for the entire package. It was sweet at times and had some really sad moments as well. I wouldn’t put it at the top of my list to recommend but I do think most will enjoy it for the most part.
“Heart in tatters, but will intact, I went on with my life.”
R.K. Lilley, all I can say is…
And all I can do is…
To sum up Danika & Tristan’s second installment I think the following gif does it nicely…
That was pretty much the entire book. I knew that it was going to be a really difficult read and I knew I was going to need tissues and be upset but I had no idea just how heart breaking it would all be. By the time I got to the last 15 or 20 percent of the book I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it or not. This was absolutely fantastically done. I’m also so very thankful that she put the first chapter of the next book at the end. It helped bring me out of that time frame and back to the nearer present. I will say that R.K. apparently has a knack for being able to rip your heart out and crush it while you’re still alive and do it in a way that you can keep reading. I definitely did not read it as quickly as I could have, but I could not put it down either. Every tragedy was a train wreck and I could not look away for even a second. I am going to have to stick to the lighter side of things for the next few books just to get over this one. I’m glad Lovely Trigger is out early 2014… I am absolutely eager to see where this story goes.
Oh my God! That was one of the most disturbing things I’ve read in awhile. I feel sick to my stomach with how that story developed and panned out in the end… Wow! I can’t even imagine what the next book must be like. The character development was absolutely insane for such a short book…
The complete transformation of Carter was so very well done. He began as a teenager who was developing difficulties with his anger and despised his father for his abuse. He was all the while struggling with his feelings of worthlessness and not being in control of his life. He then clung to and married the one person he felt “understood” him because she too came from a dysfunctional upbringing. Only to have her fire and spirit that once excited him and that he admired become the very fuel he used to attempt to break her. The entire transition happened slowly but surely even for such a quick read and he became a terrifying, cold and heartless abuser who not only was able to identify with his father but embraced his abusive nature. This arguably is one of the most horrifyingly believable depictions of the making of an abuser that I’ve ever read.
This was an excellent read for number 200. I really, really, really enjoyed it!!! I loved that Hemi was teaching Sloane the ins and outs of tats!!! 😀 That was so different and as a lover of tattoos I really enjoyed it. The secrets that they were keeping from one another were deep and led to some really ugly crying/OH NO moments… Hemi was hot as balls, all alpha and smoldering yumminess! Sloane was adorable, a sheltered girl with a fighting spirit. I can’t really say more than that without giving away too much. Definitely a great read to move up to the top of your list!!!
Here are some visuals for you…
“I’ve been tricked, like he flirted with me just enough to get me hooked and then he just…left. Emotionally. And now I’m left…wanting.”
“I don’t want promises. Most of the time, promises are just pretty lies. They’re words designed to make others feel better. But in the end, they’re still just lies. Disappointing lies… So don’t worry about making me promises. I’d rather have your truth.”
“…I wanted to make you mine, to mark you so deeply that you could never be anyone else’s.”
“I love that philosophy! It’s why I’ve never made promises. We’re humans. Frail and short-sighted. We don’t have the right to make promises we have no way of keeping…”
“You brought me to life…and I don’t ever want to be apart from you.”
Our Lion is back and he was in his full primal glory. I wish I could have given this one more stars but I think when you write something as epic as Real was it is so very difficult to follow it up. I found Brooke to be a distracting mess at times and it definitely warranted most of that full star deduction. I don’t mind a woman being vulnerable or dickmatized or even emotional… but there needs to be a balance. It definitely received all four of those stars for the wonderfulness that is Remy. It’s amazing how a character doesn’t have to say much and yet be the reason the story is so massively and overwhelmingly wonderful! I can’t wait for Remy and to have his POV!!! I predict it will be amazeballs!!!
It wasn’t as awesome as the first book but it was still a really good story. It was kind of sad how much of the book these two spent apart. But when they were together it was super-smokin-hot!!! I am looking forward to book 3 and getting Jada and Nate’s story!
I really don’t know where to start. I know one thing is for sure I need more stars. Like ten million more. I absolutely LOVED Fighting For Flight. It is still hands down just one of my favorite books! I did not know what to expect from Jamie the second time around but I hoped and wished that it would be of the same quality, and I am happy to report that I was not disappointed. I don’t know how she does it but these stories tackle some very difficult and gut wrenching material–issues of abuse and abandonment and betrayal that come off extremely realistic. I love that her heroine’s may be broken or damaged but that doesn’t stop them from being intelligent and independent as well. I also absolutely love the integration of music into her stories. It is so big that it can be counted as a character all on its own! Then you add in the romance fluffiness that we all need and love along with a huge portion of passion and flaming hot sex and that’s a J.B. Salsbury book in a nutshell. I just cannot say enough about how much I loved this book and love Jamie for life for writing these stories. Layla and Blake most definitely did it for me and I hope that they do it for you too. If you haven’t read Fighting for Flight yet I highly recommend it as well.
Some quotes and visuals if you’re not yet convinced…
Nikolai was short and heartbreaking. I give it 3.5 stars. I definitely understand him a great deal more seeing what type of pain and loss he went through. I cannot wait for the next book!!!
